And It Comes to an End (Pro Blog Post #8)

I would say that being able to do this blog was truly a fun experience and definitely something I could see being brought into a high school classroom. When trying to pick my favorites, I would say they were:

1. Professionalism

I am choosing my third blog post, which is where I discussed my experiences as a writer as well as my thoughts on AI. I do think that I showed a good amount of professionalism without losing my own voice throughout this post. I also want to mention that my point has not really changed since this post, but it is interesting to view my old thinking and compare it to mine now. I'm sure years from now, my thinking may change over and over again when it comes to AI, which is the crazy thing about a topic as big as that.

2. Multimodal Design

I am choosing my seventh blog post, which was the one where we shared our multimodal assignment. I think this truly showed how I can use multimodal elements in order to bring my point across for others to see!

3. Creativity

I am choosing my second blog post, which was the one where we created a literacy collage for our young writers. I think that this post sparked the most creativity within me and gave me a chance to show my young writers who I truly am as a teacher and a reader!

4. Civic Engagement

I am choosing my sixth blog post, which is the post where we made a book talk on the three books we chose to read for our civi topic. I chose this specifically because the topic I chose (LGBTQ+ issues) matter so much to me and make me think a lot about what is going on in today's world. The books I read put me in perspectives I have never seen, and I enjoyed being able to pick a topic I am interested in!

If I have to choose just one, it has to be Antonis and his blog posts. He used such a unique yet fun voice throughout his posts that I loved to read! It was awesome to see the progression and how much fun he seemed to have with it!

Overall, blogging has been an interesting experience. I think my favorite part of all of this was seeing everyone else's blogs and how much creativity they brought to the table. I shouldn't be surprised, we are all teacher/aspiring to be, so it makes sense that creativity is not something we lack!

Multimodal Response (Pro Blog Post #7)

I decided to make a zine because it is something I can make physically with creative tools and it is a fun project that I think students would enjoy! While making this zine, I thought a lot about the internal thoughts this character was having. The battle when it comes to discovering you are gay is another level of difficulty, and Flamer does a great job of showing this. As you can see, I used the word "Flamer" many times throughout the zine. This is simply because "flamer" is used as a slur for being gay, and the main character does get called this during the book. Although it is a graphic novel, there are many raw elements to it that make it seem so real (as it is based on the author's childhood and discovering he is gay as well)! Using a zine such as this can get students to go out of their comfort zone and use art materials, as well as giving them freedom on what they feel is important to include/show in their zine. When discussing civic engagement, this can show students the true emotions that the character is feeling and realize that it may be something that people feel in real life as well. For example, if a student is not gay and does not understand what it is like to figure that about themselves, they can use this text and project to understand a bit more of the emotions behind a discovery such as that. Overall, I enjoyed making a zine for this project, and it is definitely something I could see myself bringing into the classroom!

Book Talk and My Thoughts on the Topic: LGBTQ+ Issues (Pro Blog Post #6)

I had to put the video up through google drive because it was too long!

I would definitely try to bring the topic of LGBTQ+ into the classroom through texts that we read. Although having a whole book brought into the classroom may be difficult, this can also be shown through poetry, short stories, videos, and more that students can work with throughout the year.

I am thinking of either doing some kind of digital poetry or a zine! I think both could work well for this topic/the books I read.
